I went to law school and am now an immigration lawyer in New York City.
Motivation
My passion for Spanish was sparked when I started studying the language in high school. From that moment on, there was a desire to keep learning more. The more I learned, the more I wanted to learn.
How language enriched
The study of Spanish led to an interest in Spanish speaking cultures, which led to travel to these places and a growing desire to learn more. Visiting a foreign country and communicating in the native language is a wonderful experience, and one I have sought to replicate over and over.
Favorite memory
All of the teachers were first-rate and I enjoyed the content of the classes more than other classes.
Valued experiences How language was maintained
I speak some Spanish as part of my job and I have close relationships with native Spanish speakers. I also visit Spanish speaking countries about once a year.
Advice for others
If you enjoy learning a language, pursue it fully and experience some of the cultures that speak that language. It will enrich your life even if you do not pursue a profession that is based on the language.
