40th annual symposium of the Graduate Association of French and Italian Students (GAFIS)

This year’s theme, Echoes of Time and Enchantment will explore how time has been perceived differently across cultures and how it is represented in works of literature, film, and philosophy, among other fields. This interdisciplinary topic will encourage submissions from graduate students working in a wide range of disciplines, including literature, cinema studies, media studies, environmental studies, visual art, women and gender studies, sociology, geography, postcolonial studies, food studies, and more. The keynote speaker, Professor Laura Di Bianco, an Italian film scholar whose research is interdisciplinary, will examine cinematic enchantment in the films of groundbreaking filmmaker Alice Rohrwacher.
