Congratulations to the following individuals from our department who were selected to present at Languages of the World Day on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Union South.
- Loren Eadie, PhD (Italian – “The Real ‘Eataly:’ Learning Italian Through Food!”)
- Dr. Loren Eadie spoke to her group about Italian food culture, teaching them how to say if they like or dislike certain foods in Italian. She also presented on the history of the pizza, types of pasta, and how Italians can identify themselves using foods and food language.
- Jess Dubie (Italian – “How Specific Dishes and Ingredients Indicate Regional Cultures in Italy.”)
- “Italian Regional Delicacies: Culture on a Plate” presented by PhD student Jess Dubie reflected on four popular dishes of Italian cuisine and their geographical origins, thinking more specifically about what kind of flavors and ingredients are common in the various regions of Italy.
- Mathilde Garnier (French – “Emily in Paris, Croissants, and Clichés: What’s real about France?”)
- In her presentation “Emily in Paris, Croissants and Clichés: What’s Real About France?”, Mathilde Garnier explored common stereotypes about France portrayed in the media and invited the audience to reflect on where these representations come from and how they can be challenged.
What is Languages of the World Day? Languages of the World Day is a day-long conference-style field trip for high school students and their teachers that aims to inspire interest in diverse languages and cultures from around the world. This event is an opportunity to introduce Wisconsin high school students and teachers to the languages you teach or research, encouraging further exploration and study.
