Now on view in the main lobby of the Memorial Library: “Francophone Comics: Evolving Understandings of the Global French-Language Bande Dessinée” (curated by French Ph.D. candidates Pete Russella and Kimberly Rooney)

In recent years, the UW-Libraries have made significant additions to their French-language comics holdings to bolster awareness of and research on these important comics voices. This exhibit features selections from the Libraries’ burgeoning collection of comics from the Francophone world, from Canada to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The works show great diversity of style and content, yet they are bound together by their common use of the French language. The exhibit is tied to two upcoming events: lectures by Emmanuelle Dufour (April 12) and Michelle Bumatay (April 17). Professor Bumatay’s lecture will be preceded at 4:00 p.m. by a presentation of the exhibit.
